With experts across the WILDLABS community working with every type of technology and in every imaginable environment, our platform is a great place to find advice and resources on choosing what tools are right for your conservation project. Whether you're in the market to try a new camera trap model, want to experiment with drones for the first time, or need help weighing the pros and cons of data management tools, there's someone in the WILDLABS community who can help you make a smart and informed choice!
The Community Base is our general gathering group. It's the place where we cover more general, big picture topics in conservation technology - ones that don't fit neatly into our other groups. If you don't know where to post something, just post it in this group. Our moderators will move it if needed!
At our Community Base, you'll find updates from the WILDLABS team on upcoming events and opportunities, and have the chance to shape our programs and platform with your opinions. And most importantly, the Community Base is also home to our Welcome to WILDLABS thread, the best place to introduce yourself to us and the community. Stop by and tell us what you're working on!
Whether you're new to WILDLABS and want to know where to begin, or you're a longtime member looking for a handy bank of resources, our Getting Started on WILDLABS thread will be your one-stop guide to getting the most out of our platform.

Marconi and I will be there from Rainforest Connection (RFCx)! RFCx has a booth, so catch us in the exhibitor hall (teaser-there will be giveaways...) - we'll be the ones playing weird and cool animal sounds!
We also submitted 2 abstracts, one on using ecoacoustic monitoring to assess how species respond to climate change in Puerto Rico, and another on using ecoacoustic monitoring to assess effectiveness of restoration sites with maintaining biodiversity levels.
Anddddd finally, we'll be giving a lunch-time workshop (just found our proposal was approved!) on using Arbimon to store, analyze, and interpret ecoacoustic data.
Let's have an ICCB conservation tech happy hour?? Super excited to participate in any/all conservation tech stuff happening!

It's pretty big for NGOs and I would say there is growing involvement from companies? But it's usually those with strong conservation partnerships. The bigger one is World Conservation Congress - but this is only every few years. We've put in a workshop aligned with our movement ecology work, will likely do some talks, and will be hosting side events (both networking and meetings). I'm hearing about quite a lot of other tech events/conversations being organised, so it should be a good place to connect with a good cross section of the conservation tech community.

Hello everyone! 🥳
I’m Andrzej Białaś and I am the Data4Good Lead at Appsilon. I found this community a while ago and mostly lurked around. The intro is well overdue!
Happy to connect with others working on using technology for the benefit of the planet & people (Add me on LinkedIn or email at andrzej@appsilon.com). I also have a LI Newsletter showcasing news from across #DataForGood, #Sustainability, #ClimateChange, #AI & #Tech.
One of our keystone projects coming from the Data4Good initiative is Mbaza AI - an open-source algorithm that allows rapid biodiversity monitoring at scale. But we also do a ton of other cool projects.
- Counting Antarctic Bird Nests: Remotely Sensed Keystone Species Project, or
- Machine Learning and Plankton: Copepod Prosome and Lipid Sac Segmentation,
- and more 🙂

Hi All,
I an recent joiner to WILDLABS and really enjoyed the Variety Hour last month and I am looking forward to finding out more about all the cool work people do here.
What kind of interfaces can we create that connect us to data on wildlife and the environment?
That is what I am researching as a PhD student in the ATLAS Institute at University of Colorado at Boulder. I have a background in design, data visualisation, and creating tools for citizen science, plus an unqualified love of the outdoors, especially mountains and birds!
I'm really interested in how working with communities we could co-create Digital Twins of the environments and inhabitants around us, and telepresent experiences of nature through Augmented Reality, Tangible User Interfaces, and Wearables. This would be to help engagement with topics important to the community, but also introducing novel ways for scientists and conservation enthusiasts to experience the data they collect. I made a vision video to try and communicate this project idea.
Edge computing, sensing devices, and IoT for conservation, are fields I'd love to learn more on, especially how AI can play a role in data gathering about wildlife.
I'm keen to hear about the challenges experts and enthusiasts face in conservation tech and how design and creative engineering might be able to play a role in tackling those challenges. And I'm looking to collaborate with communities in the conservation tech space like WILDLABS.
If you have a current project or one in mind that overlaps with any of the areas above, I'd love to chat with you. My email is david.hunter@colorado.edu

I finally managed to sit down and write my intro! So glad to be here and meet you in the future.
Why I joined Wildlabs:
Reversing the biodiversity crisis is the biggest task of our species. So I strongly believe in collaboration. It is always great to meet like-minded people that want to tackle this challenging task. I think Wildlabs is a great place to collaborate.
What I am working on:
In December last year, I quit my job to create my own companies, to tackle this issue 24/7.
With Wildya - I combine nature & personal development
With Wild Business Mates - I help biodiversity heroes like you to get better at the business side of your business, NGO, grassroots organization etc.
My base:
I am based in Biarritz on the South West Coast of France. In the beautiful Basque Country.
What I hope to find:
I think we all have a part to play, no matter if you are a scientist, activists, artists, business leader, politicians and co. So I hope to connect with everyone that is thinking solution-oriented and want to tackle this challenge together.
How I can contribute:
I hope to learn more about the current roadblocks that you identified that are holding us back. I hope to contribute with my business knowledge to help you to get the financial means that you need to deliver your impact.
BONUS: What you need to know about me.
- Love outdoor sports
- eat an Ice cream per day (chocolate obviously)
- have a dog
- favorite place I have been: Botswana
- best animal encounter: sleeping close to lions in Botswana
- I am a certified field guide
Have a great Easter and wish to meet you all soon!

Hi James, and welcome to WILDLABS! It's a truly amazing community :)
Just wondering if TCA is only focused on camera-trapping or if you all are using other conservation tech like acoustic monitoring?
7 March 2023 12:17am
Hi James.
I'm Akiba from FreakLabs, a conservation tech company. We're currently doing a lot of work in Australia and also there about half our time. Most of our work deals with wireless monitoring or camera trap modifications. We don't do much on the post-processing/analysis side, however we're currently engaged in several projects modifying camera traps for specific purposes. It'd be great to have a call and hear more about what you are doing over there. Since you're in New Guinea, it'd be easy to visit when we're in Australia which would make any collaborations much easier. Let me know if you'd like to have a call and explore potential collaborations.
